The cooling capacity of an air conditioning unit is measured in British Thermal Units (BTU). The BTU rating is a measure of how much cooling the unit can provide. The required rating of a unit can be calculated on the basis of several factors, the most important of which is the area (size of the room) it must keep at a comfortable temperature. Other factors such as the type, location and construction of the room are important as well.

The BTU calculator below has been supplied for your convenience. Please note that this BTU calculator is only a guide. The exact calculation will vary, depending on location, number of occupants, number of electrical devices, the amount of glazing, floor finishes, etc. A final heat load calculation should always be performed by a qualified person. We will be happy to do this for you!
